“I believe secondary education should provide students with content knowledge, skills, and abilities that allows them to move on into the world and choose a path that leads to success. CTE is best suited to prepare students with a purpose and inspire them to continue learning and thriving in whatever path they choose; there is no better place to lead and support students.”

“Education without application leads to frustration. West-MEC and CTE encourages and provides a purpose and reason for gaining knowledge. The venue for hands on exploration and development puts the student in charge of their success with a hittable target. I believe this is why students engage so quickly into their own education and career choice. This is why I am at West-MEC.”

Eric Phye

Eric Phye

Welding Instructor

The reason I wanted to teach is because I have 25 years of experience in welding and I just thought it was my time to try to give back and pay it forward. I want to help kids and adults learn something they really passionate about and hopefully they have the same heart and desire like I did 25 years ago when I first learned how to weld.
