West-MEC Cosmetology program kicks off.
In July 2008, West-MEC celebrated a huge milestone; the district, in partnership with the Maricopa Skill Center opened its first Career and Technical Education training facility dedicated to instructing students in cosmetology called the Cutting Edge Style Academy.
Hundreds of West-MEC students, parents and local dignitaries attended the Cutting Edge Style Academy Open House on Tuesday July 15, 2008.
West-MEC Governing Board Member James Kaltenbach and Don Campbell, President of the Maricopa Community College Board, cut the ribbon at the open house. Members of the West-MEC Governing Board, Maricopa Skill Center, Gateway Community College, Peoria Chamber and the Peoria City Council attended the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The open house allowed students and parents to tour the 10,800 square foot facility, which features four classrooms, a computer lab and a state-of-the-art 80-station salon area. Cutting Edge Style Academy instructors were also on hand to greet students and answer cosmetology questions.
Students began their cosmetology training at the school on July 28, 2008.
