Instructional Best Practices (AZ CTE Curriculum Consortium – Day 1)- Cost $25.00

This course is an introduction to the design and use of CTE curriculum. It includes an in depth look at writing objectives and incorporating active participation strategies throughout instruction, weaving these strategies across the entire workshop. Participants in this workshop will receive password-protected access to the AZ CTE Curriculum Consortium with its 2500+ (and growing) bank of outstanding lesson plans for more than 20 CTE courses written by Arizona CTE teachers..

Instructional Best Practices (AZ CTE Curriculum Consortium – Day 2)- Cost $25.00

Day 2 of the Curriculum Consortium Training follows the training begun in Day 1 and will add expertise in using introductions and closure to any teacher’s toolbox, whether a new teacher or one with many years of experience, as well as hands-on experience with several additional vocabulary and active participation strategies. In addition, participants will have some dedicated time in our computer lab to use the access they gained after Day 1 to the Consortium lesson plans to identify relevant lessons and personalize them for their classroom use. Pre-requisite: Day 1

Instructional Best Practices (AZ CTE Curriculum Consortium – Day 3) – Cost $25.00

Day 3 of the Curriculum Consortium Training follows the training begun in Day 1 with a small
group of teachers preparing and delivering lessons and receiving some coaching and feedback on their teaching after the lesson is complete. Participants will have multiple opportunities to observe lessons taught and teachers working with a coach to gain feedback on those lessons, as well as teaching
and being coached themselves. All teachers will leave with a personalized plan of strength-
building for their instructional skills. Prerequisite:Day 1 is required; Day 2 is recommended.

Classroom Management- Cost $25.00

Teachers will develop procedures and routines. Teachers will also learn the philosophy of “Discipline with Dignity” and develop classroom rules and consequences. Participants will be empowered to create an atmosphere which is conducive to learning and high expectations. All of this is based on the belief that excellent classroom management is built on the foundation of well-planned, relevant and engaging lessons.

Contemporary Issues in CTE- Cost Rio Salado Tuition for (3) credits

projected cost is $81 per credit plus a $15 registration fee
College/ADE Credit Available:Yes – 3 College Credits
West-MEC is again partnering with Rio Salado College to pilot an opportunity for you to earn college credit for your participation in the summer conference. Participants will have the opportunity to earn three (3) college credits from Rio Salado College for the course Contemporary Issues in Career and Technical Education. To earn the college credits, participants must attend the entire ACTEAZ Summer conference, complete follow-up assignments based on the sessions and events attended, and participate in a workshop from 8-12 on Saturday, August 24th at West-MEC.

Industry Update

The 2012-13 CTE Industry Update Program provides educators the opportunity to update their knowledge and skills and receive on-the-job training in CTE program-related industries. The program also enables educators to experience work-based learning in much the same way as their students. Applicants are especially encouraged to pursue experiences in new technology and innovations consistent with their CTE programs.

West-MEC offers a series of courses and workshops. Educators from throughout Arizona are welcome to participate. Priority is given to employees from West-MEC member districts. The prices listed are for employees in member districts. Individuals from districts outside of West-MEC who wish to participate in these workshops should contact the West-MEC Professional Development office at 623.738.0024 for pricing.

All workshop/course participants will receive certificates documenting their hours for purposes of recertification.

Cancellations must be in writing and postmarked or e-mailed to mike.bush@west-mec.org no later than seven (7) days prior to the date of the workshop.

Substitutions will not be accepted unless received in writing from the original registrant or CTE Director’s office. Registrants unable to attend may send a substitute. A letter from the original registrant authorizing the substitution must be e-mailed to mike.bush@west-mec.org along with the substitute’s completed registration form no later than seven (7) days prior to the date on which the workshop will be held.

Refunds are not available. Registrants who fail to cancel participation within seven (7) days prior to a workshop or who fail to make a substitution within seven (7) days will be charged for the workshop.
